Abstract

|
This is the report of a case of Cushing´s syndrome treated successfully at the Department of General Surgery of Kwangju Christian Hospital.
Cushing´s syndrome refers to the changes seen with excess ccrtisol secretion. In recent years it has been the impression of some physicians that the incidence of Cushing´s syndrome is on the increase. However, it appears more likely that this represents better implementation of diagnostic methods that promote wider recognition of the disease rather than an" absolute increase. In spite of the increased number of reported cases, Cushing"s syndrome still remains comparatively rare in Korea.
This patient was a 46-year old woman.
Preoperative diagnosis of Cushing´s syndrome was made by characteristic clinical features biochemical and radiological studies.
Right adrena.lectomy through right flank approach vas sucessful in this patient and the histopathologic diagnosis was adenoma of the adrenal cortex.
A brief review of the literature was made.
